Every Contender A Winner in Quran Competitions: Iran’s President

IQNA – Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi said Quran contests are among competitions in which no one loses and every contender is a winner.

The president made the remark in an address to the closing ceremony of Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition in Tehran on Wednesday evening.

Congratulating those winning the top ranks in the competition, the president said that anyone who attends Quranic programs and makes his or her heart and soul a place for the teachings of the Quran is a victor.

He described the competition, which convenes Quran memorizers and reciters from all over the world, is a venue for promotion of Muslim unity based on the Holy Quran and can be a harbinger of hope, a united Ummah, and steadfastness and resistance against injustice and oppression.  

The Islamic Republic of Iran is proud to have the opportunity to organize such international Quranic events, he stated, adding that the convergence, rapport, and affinity seen among the contenders during the competition can introduce Iran as a flag-bearer of unity in the Muslim Ummah.

“We clasp the hands of all of the world Muslims in fraternity, convergence and interaction,’ he said, stressing that the Holy Quran can be the basis of unity and peaceful coexistence among all Muslims and followers of all denominations.

Elsewhere in his remarks, President Raeisi described the Quran as the book of guidance and said it is a responsibility of qaris, memorizers and other Quran activists to promote the teachings of the Holy Book in society.

He underlined that humanity is need of the light of the Holy Quran today, adding that all Quran activists should make the most of the cyberspace to spread the message of the Holy Book.

The president also said the oppression and injustice seen in the world today are the result of the sidelining of the Quran and a return to the teachings of the Holy Book is the way to rectify this situation.  

Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition had been launched in Tehran last Thursday with the participation of 69 reciters and memorizers from 44 countries.

Winners of different categories in the men’s and women’s sections were named and awarded at the closing ceremony.

The annual event, organized by Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, aims to promote the Quranic culture and values among Muslims and showcase the talents of Quran reciters and memorizers.
